The site of a former production facility in the border triangle of France, Switzerland and Germany was remediated in a joint venture: The contaminated soil was excavated, partially washed and reinstalled, or treated in thermal plants throughout Europe. Depending on the concentration of HCH in the soil, it was transported by ship, closed containers or drums (HCH in its pure form).
The entire remediation area was enclosed and kept under constant negative pressure, the ship loading facility was encapsulated to prevent emissions during loading and special airlocks were used to load containers and drums. The construction equipment operated in the halls was equipped with ambient air-independent equipment cabins.
