PFAS soil-washing, Wittmundhafen

As part of a large construction project in northern Germany, several hundred thousand tons of soil contaminated with residues of extinguishing foam additives (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, PFAS) arise. Instead of being disposed of, the material is washed on site at great technical expense and can then be safely reused on site.

Scope of services

  • Design of the treatment strategy and overall process engineering concept with material flow
  • Delivery and construction of the systems
  • Operation of the floor washing plant with ancillary facilities for an estimated 4 years

The washing tower

The core element of the soil washing plant is the washing tower, in which the solid fractions are classified and washed. After washing, process water with fines is transferred to the downstream treatment stages.
