The CarbonEx S activated carbon filter for sewage gas is used to clean biogas or sewage gas with silicon-organic substances (siloxanes) and substances containing hydrocarbons (VOCs = volatile organic compounds).

Description and area of application
Abrasive deposits are increasingly being observed in the CHP units of wastewater treatment plants, leading to damage and high maintenance costs. These deposits in the form of crystalline or glass-like layers on the components in the combustion chamber are caused by so-called siloxanes. These are organic oxygen-silicon compounds with hydrocarbon residues. Siloxanes enter the sewage treatment plant through domestic and industrial entry paths via the wastewater. The sources are cosmetics, personal care products, cleaning agents, etc. These compounds accumulate in the sewage sludge and pass into the gas phase during sludge treatment in the digester.

In the CHP plant, these silicon-organic compounds burn to form microcrystalline silicon dioxide (ultra-fine quartz sand). This leads to wear on cylinder running surfaces, pistons, valves etc.

To prevent the harmful effects on the CHP unit, the gas must be cleaned.

The CarbonEx S activated carbon filter developed for this purpose is ideally suited for this.
This activated carbon filter can be used to safely and reliably remove the organosilicon compounds from the gas. Other organic components in the gas (so-called volatile organic compounds, VOCs for short) are also removed from the gas.

The activated carbon filter can also be used to remove the pollutant hydrogen sulphide from sewage gas.

Features and benefits

  • Activated carbon filter for separating siloxanes and hydrogen sulphide from sewage gas
  • Filter tank for sewage gas volumes of 50 to 2,000 m³/h (larger gas volumes also possible on request)
  • Corrosion-resistant container made of special plastic
  • Thermally insulated design to avoid condensation effects in the container: This means that outdoor installation is possible
  • Container design electrically conductive
  • Large filter volume enables long service life
  • Integrated gas heat exchanger to reduce the relative gas humidity: soaking of the activated carbon by condensate can be prevented
  • Depending on the application, use of different, optimized special activated carbons: This results in optimized separation of the gas constituents
  • Individual design: Size and connections can be customized
