As part of the renovation work on the Anderten lock, ZUT is providing a plant for treating construction water and sludge. The Anderten lock was built in 1928 and overcomes a height difference of 14.70 m in the Mittelland Canal. At the time of its completion, it was the largest inland locks in Europe.

As part of a large construction project in northern Germany, several hundred thousand tons of soil contaminated with residues of extinguishing foam additives (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, PFAS) are produced. Instead of being disposed of, the material is washed on site at great technical expense and can then be safely reused on site.

PFAS groundwater treatment plant Berlin-Tegel
Hydraulic flow protection: Relevant concentrations of the PFAS pollutant group were detected in the catchment area of the Tegel waterworks. The groundwater from the contaminated wells is routed to a purification plant where it is cleaned of PFAS after pre-treatment to remove impurities.
